A NEW YEAR POEM

Come in
Sit down
And I'll make you
A cup of tea
We'll leave ego at the
Front door.

Pull up a chair
Take off your shoes
The telephone ringer is off
The doorbell taped over.

We can talk small talk
Or chat about the old days
No television with its war news
No stereo to startle the ears.

I apologize for the
Lack of a fireplace
And the empty wine bottle
Perhaps a smile to warm the
Heart will do.

Old friends are welcome here
Enemies will not be turned away
This is a new day
A new year
Come in
Sit down
And make yourself at home.AD Winans
